Time: 9:00am-11:30am EST

Have fun diving into scene-work from movies featuring some of our greatest modern comedians like Jim Carrey, Whoopi Goldberg, Jennifer Aniston, Eddie Murphy, Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart. Comedies often rely on blue collar sensibilities and white-collar arrogance; characters who, against all odds, trip, fall or stumble into extreme chaos or more money than they could ever imagine. Most importantly, these zany characters must learn to summon the courage to defeat evil, rescue the boy or girl or find the gold! Regardless of how it all ends up, the hilarious story rides on the backs of colorful characters who have their own strengths, flaws and agendas. They all WANT something, NEED something, have a FATAL FLAW and overcome their fears to succeed. In this class we will study the characters required to achieve strong, effective comedic performances. If an actor knows the purpose of their character and why they were added to the story, the actor can draw clear objectives and score big from the audition to playing the role!

Time: 12:00pm-2:30pm EST

Many roles demand young actors to step outside their understanding of what takes place in the real world. Whether it is fighting against supernatural obstacles in something like “Jumanji” or outsmarting the evil forces and creatures in “Stranger Things”, a young actor must know how to interpret the material and deliver genuine performances in an unbelievable set of circumstances. From the Ordinary World to slaying dragons, this course will take actors through the stages of the Hero’s Journey using scenes from classic adventure movies. Actors will learn the role their character plays in the journey as well as their role in helping a band of misfits achieve success. Each group of hapless heroes will experience conflict and potential danger. The characters must learn to get along in order to have any chance of gaining the elixir (magical potion)! Actors will learn their purpose and function of their character to the story as they learn to work together on the road their destiny!

TIME: 9:00am-12:00pm EST
NOTE: This course includes the SHOWCASE plus INDIVIDUAL PRIVATE PREPARATION TIME the week before the workshop with JOHN D’AQUINO via ZOOM.

Working actors are continually working their craft from the audition to the performance. Having a strong audition technique not only increases call-backs, but sends a message that you are professional and reliable.
